Pa. Governor Candidate Corbett Stresses His Support for Del. River Dredging

by KYW's David Madden

Pennsylvania attorney general Tom Corbett brought his Republican gubernatorial campaign to the Tioga Marine Terminal in Port Richmond today, touting the international policy he hopes to implement if he’s elected.

Corbett (center of photo above) toured the terminal after speaking with management and labor at the Philadelphia Regional Port Corporation. Most of the time was taken up with his discussion of expansion plans -- including deepening the Delaware River by five feet:

"I asked the question, if we got the permission to go to 45 (feet) why don’t you go to 50 if the ships are going to be bigger? Sometimes when we do an expansion, we don’t do it big enough in the first place."

Corbett knows there is opposition to the dredging from New Jersey, but he hopes to sit down at some point with governor Chris Christie to convince him that the project helps his state, too.
