PHILADELPHIA — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded a contract Tuesday, Feb. 16 for the deepening of the Delaware Bay and River shipping channel to a dredging company.

According to the Press of Atlantic City, the company can begin deepening the shipping channel Feb. 26 from 40 to 45 feet in one section of the estuary near Wilmington, Del. The rest of the project is on hold by a judge's order.

The plan calls for deepening the channel from west of Cape May in the Delaware Bay up to the Port of Philadelphia, the Press stated.
